About Gliders…
Gliders is a Tabby-compatible utility which has two uses:
• It can extend launch.next events beyond Tabby’s limit of a
255-character script.
• It allows systems which don’t run Tabby to chain Tabby-compatible
utility programs, such as mehitabel and Tally, then to run them as
“NetMail Events.”
Gliders is not specific to any BBS package, and should run with anything
that supports external applications.
To set up Gliders, put it at the same folder level as Host and Tabby,
then run it while holding down the mouse button. Use its “Select Event”
button to choose a string of applications to run. These are listed in
the pop-up menu in the dialog box in the order in which they will run.
You can also choose to delete an event if you want to reorganize the
sequence. Gliders allows you to enter as many as 20 events. These are
recorded in STR resources, and remain there permanently until you
reconfigure Gliders.
If you want to run more than 20 events, no problem. Just make multiple
copies of Gliders with different names, and have each launch another
copy when it’s run through its first 19 events.
In operation, Gliders looks for a text file called launch.next. If it
finds such a file, it processes its information and writes a new
launch.next file, with Gliders events appended to the existing sequence.
If there is no launch.next file, Gliders creates one and writes its
preordained event list. When it is done, Gliders launches the
appropriate next event.
If you are not running Tabby, remember to configure your BBS program to
launch Gliders at whatever hour you choose.
Version 1.1 of Gliders runs correctly with other launch.next events under
MultiFinder.
Version 1.3 of Gliders works with any BBS program that runs Tabby and
fixes some bugs which cropped up in the briefly-distributed version 1.2.
Version 1.4 improves the interface by allowing you to insert events in the
list rather than always appending them to the end.
Version 1.41 adds “Alias” information to the Configure dialog to remind
you what you called this copy of Gliders.
Version 1.4.2 adds color icon and SIZE resource, along with some extra WaitNextEvent calls for MultiFinder/System 7 compatibility.
Gliders is free, though it is ©1990 by me.
If you like Gliders, send mail to PETERJ on GEnie or via FidoNet to Pete
Johnson at 102/863, or drop me a postcard. If I get good mail, I will
continue to maintain Gliders and to release free software. Otherwise I
won’t.
